I find the fact that instead of being able to just book an appointment with a doctor as used to be the case, we now need a doctor to call us back to discern our need for an appointment. I do appreciate that this system is designed to eliminate 'time wasters' but still do not like it. Also for many years being treated by one doctor who knew all our ailments and problems was a great comfort. Now it is almost impossible to get to see what used to be your own GP. Now we never know who will be dealing with our illnesses. The practice nurse that I saw today was lovely, friendly and totally competent. But my problem today was a minor one that she was well equipped to deal with, but I have other long term illnesses that I would often like my old GP to have appointments free to ease my concerns. Saying these thing, in today's NHS climate, I am extremely grateful to all at my surgery for their efforts. Especially the Pharmacy who work so hard and provide such a brilliant service.

I am sad to read that a few people have found the services at Charing Surgery unsatisfactory. I move around the country due to the nature of my work , recently moving to the area from a large town, and a GP clinic that was so very different to Charing. The call back system is used widely i gather, i would imagine to try and manage the ever increasing workloads , but rarely is it as efficient as the system I have so far experienced at this surgery. I would have been utterly stunned if i had actually spoken to a gp at my last surgery within 24 hours ( or even 48 hours as a matter of fact) let alone see a GP or Nurse on the SAME DAY ! I think the people who are displeased with the service at Charing should perhaps try another surgery , perhaps in their local town, and then reassess their judgement. I can honestly say that I have received no less than 'great care' from this practice- from the welcoming and smiling ladies at the front desk , right through to the most senior of doctors. Thank you for looking after me so well.

Considering how busy the surgery is an and the circumstance of ones problem an appointment can be made within a day or so. A return phone call will be done the same day. For a consultation its a bit longer. On the whole it is a good surgery and the upfront staff are always very helpful.

on numerous occasions myself and my children have been referred by our hospital to have after care appointments, at our GPs to ensure that post operative wounds/infections are healing ok. on these occasions, we have had to wait 30 minutes just to get through to the telephone call back scheme. once that appointment is made, you have to wait half the day to get a phone call back to see if you need an appointment. You may then be given an appointment in say 30 mins time, or at worst no appointment at all. obviously in the cases of my children, i have kept them off school and myself off work, to ensure we are close to the surgery so as not to miss an appointment that might be given. whilst our health is paramount, it is very frustrating sitting around waiting to see if we are worthy of appointments. common sense does not exist at this surgery anymore. if we have been referred by the hospital to have follow ups, I do not expect to be treated like an idiot whilst standing in reception trying to make an appointment with unhelpful staff just saying smugly 'you can't make an appointment for 2 days time, you will have to call on the day, to wait for a phone call back.' the point being, we need that appointment regardless, so why can't the doctor who is going to call you back, spend those 5 mins seeing you instead. total waste of resources and patients time. I can understand that patients must call frequently, with coughs and colds etc... that can be dealt with accordingly over the phone. but these are referrals, follow ups, where we have to be seen by our GP. must we really go through all this silliness, just after being operated on?

Response from Charing Surgery

Thank you for your feedback and we are sorry that there appears to have been so much misunderstanding as to how the appointment system should work. Please do not hesitate to contact the Practice Manager, Kay Acott, so that we can resolve any outstanding concerns or frustations and ensure the appointment system works more smoothly for you in the future. Thank you.
